We are learning to …
§  read and respond critically to short texts and extend our reading interests.

§  we can answer comprehension questions
§  we can understand the meaning of new vocabulary and work out unknown words using the context
§  we have a good working knowledge of word structure e.g. prefixes, suffixes, syllabification
§  we can recognise homophones, synonyms, similies and onomatopoeia



TERM 4 WRITTEN LANGUAGE 2014

We are learning to write a recount about the Oaklands School 50th Jubilee or the school Production for the Jubilee.

We know we have done this when...
- we have written some details about some of the events.
- we have written the details in order.

- we have made it interesting for the reader to read.



TERM 3 NUMERACY

I AM LEARNING TO …
Subtract by splitting numbers instead of counting down.


I need to split the number I am taking away so it is easier to take it away from the original number to make a complete ten so it is easy to take away a single digit.

I went to board games and made my own own board game. I still need to to finish it and put things on it like "Go forward 3 spaces" or "Miss a turn" or "Go back 4 spaces". I am going to finish it in the classroom or at home.

TERM 2 MUSIC

- play the chime bars to go up and down the scale 
- explore the differences between high and low sounds and soft and loud sounds 
- sing songs in time with the music.

  • we can play up the scale, and down the scale in time to the song
  • we can keep in time with the music
  • we can say whether the sounds are high or low
  • we can play loudly or softly
  • we can sing in time with the music

Term 2 Reading 2014

I am learning to read silently, clarify unfamiliar words or phrases, question others about the story, summarise the text in my own words and find the important information in what I read and to reflect upon what I read.

  • plan a drawing using the elements of line, tone, texture, colour, form, shape, and space
  • use the techniques of sketching, using the correct brush strokes, colour mixing, texturing, and applying a black border.
  • communicate and interpret my idea of a kowhaiwhai pattern.

Student comment:
I found it a bit tricky to sketch the pattern and to paint it in the right colours.
